What it does

You drop a night's .wotreplay files onto the page. Your browser opens them and pulls out what the game recorded: the result, who was in it, what they drove, and every figure the scoreboard held. Then it reads the packet stream for where each tank went, second by second, so the battle can be played back on the real minimap.

The replay files are never uploaded. They are read in your browser and only what comes out of them is sent to the server.

What it will not claim

A replay is recorded from one player's client, which means an enemy tank does not exist in the file at all until somebody on your side sees it. Six per cent of them are visible twenty seconds in. So the app will not show you the enemy's opening, because it cannot know it, and it says so on the page rather than drawing something plausible.

What it can show is first contact — and across 150 battles the spot where an enemy tank is first seen predicts which flank it is still on ninety seconds later 98% of the time.

What is stored, and where

• Each clan has its own database file. Nothing is shared between clans and no clan can reach another's, because the only thing that says which clan you are is a signed cookie you get by typing that clan's password.
• Passwords are stored as hashes. Nobody here can read them back — which also means nobody here can recover one for you.
• There is no account, no email address, and no tracking. The only cookie the site sets is the one that keeps you signed in.

Two passwords

One lets a person look at the record. The other lets them import battles, edit the roster and delete things. Give the first to the clan; keep the second among the people who run it. Typing either one on the front page signs you in at that level.

What it costs, and why there are no ads

€18 a year per clan, after 60 free days. There is no card to take and nothing to cancel: the trial simply ends.

There are no advertisements anywhere on this site and no tracking. The reason is arithmetic rather than principle. Display ads on a tool that people log into are shown almost nowhere, because everyone bookmarks the page behind the login; at the traffic this generates they would earn a fraction of a server bill, and the only way to make them earn more is to follow people around the internet. A few clans paying for it covers the whole thing, so that is how it is paid for.

If a subscription lapses, nothing is deleted and nothing is hidden. The record stays readable and exportable. What stops is adding to it.

Getting your data out

Every table in the app exports to Excel or CSV, whatever the state of your subscription. It is your clan's record; it should never be stuck here.
